책소개
故이동훈화백은 1947년부터 1963년까지 대전사범학교에서 교사로 근무하면서 작품활동과 후진양성에 힘썼으며 1984년까지 왕성한 작품세계를 펼쳤다. 그리고 이런 그의 업적과 예술정신을 기리기 위해 2003년 ‘이동훈미술상’이 제정되었다. ‘이동훈미술상’은 대전·충청지역을 대표하는 예술가이자 교육자로서 한국근현대 미술사에서 故이동훈 화백의 업적을 높이 평가하고, 대전미술의 발전을 위해 제정된 미술상이다. 올해 19회를 맞이하고 있으며 명실상부 한국을 대표하는 미술상으로 거듭나고 있다.
‘이동훈미술상’은 사단법인 ‘이동훈기념사업회’가 주최하고 ‘중도일보사’가 주관하는 상으로 심사위원회를 통해 한국미술에 지대한 업적과 공헌을 한 원로작가에게 수여하는 본상과 대전·충청을 중심으로 활동하는 30~50대 작가에게 수여하는 특별상 수상작가를 선정하고 있다.
또한, 한국미술뿐만 아니라 대전미술에서 시대와 함께 격동기의 예술혼을 천착해 온 작가들을 새롭게 발굴하고 지원함으로써 명실상부 중부권 최고의 미술상으로 ‘이동훈미술상’의 취지와 의미를 확대하고 있다. 특히 수상작가의 작품을 다음 해에 대전시립미술관에서 기획, 전시함으로써 수상작가의 예술세계를 집중조명하고 ‘이동훈미술상’의 의미를 더 높이고 있다.
The late painter LEE Donghoon began to teach art at Daejeon Technical High School in 1945, when he also started to commit himself to creating works and cultivating talented students. LEE was a representative painter and educator in Daejeon and Chungnam areas and has left a big mark in the history of Korean modern art. ‘The LEE Donghoon Art Awards’ were established to honor his achievements and artistic legacy in 2003 and have since contributed to developing arts in Daejeon. The awards that celebrate its 19th anniversary this year is evolving as prestigious awards in the art scene of Korea.
The ceremony of the awards is held by the LEE Donghoon Commemoration Society and run by the ‘Joongdo Ilbo Company.’ The awards consist of main awards that are given to senior artists who have made a salient legacy in Korean art history and special awards that are given to outstanding artists in their 30s to 50s who work based in Daejeon or Chungcheong-do.
These days, they are enlarging their purpose and meaning to be the best art awards in the middle region of Korea by discovering and supporting new artists who immerse themselves in art and go forward with art in Daejeon as well as Korean art.
