윌리엄 블레이크 (William Blake)
1757~1827. 영국의 시인, 화가. 판화가. 런던 출생.
묵상(默想) 중에 상상하는 신비로운 체험을 시로 표현했다. 14세 때부터 7년간 판각가(板刻家) 제임즈 바자이어(James Basire, 1730~1802)의 도제(徒弟)가 되어 중세의 건축, 조각의 사생(寫生)이나 조판(彫版)을 만들었다. 1778년 로열 아카데미 미술학교에서 단기간 공부하기도 하였다. 시화집을 만들어 간행했으며, 단테의 시와 구약성서의 <욥기> 등을 위한 삽화를 남겼다. 주요 저서에 <순수의 노래 Songs of Innocence>(1789) <천국과 지옥의 결혼 The Marriage of Heaven and Hell>(1790) <경험의 노래 Songs of Experience>(1794) 등이 있다.
